Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. It was developed by a Swedish physiologist, Henri Peter Ling at the University of Stockholm in 1812. It uses a firm but gentle pressure to improve circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation. 1-hour: $93, 1-1/2 hour: $150, 2-hour: $200

Swedish massage employs five different movements:
* long, gliding strokes
* kneading of individual muscles
* friction
* hacking or tapping
* vibration

Deep Tissue Massage*

Deep tissue massage is a massage modality aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish Massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is a more focused style massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (a.k.a. “adhesions”). 1-hour: $93, 1-1/2 hour: $150, 2-hour: $200

*Very large, thick muscled, and or individuals requesting extra deep, intense, extended pressure may be charged a slightly higher rate (not to exceed $10).

Medical Massage*

Medical massage is a noninvasive therapy which produces beneficial results for individuals experiencing numerous health-related illnesses and injuries. It is sometimes defined as “medically necessary massage” and is usually prescribed by a physician. Medical massage is generally practiced in relation to a specific goal, i.e. releasing a frozen shoulder or breaking up scar tissue following surgery, etc. Medical massage is helpful to individuals who suffer from an assortment of health conditions, including repetitive motion injuries, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, muscle spasms, neuro-muscular conditions, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, chronic headaches, whiplash, rotator cuff injuries, and soft-tissue injuries. 1-hour: $93, 1-1/2 hour: $150, 2-hour: $200

*Very large, thick muscled, and or individuals requesting extra deep, intense, extended pressure may be charged a slightly higher rate (not to exceed $10).

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage using smooth, heated stones. They are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well. It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps tight muscles release in 1/10th the time of regular touch. 1 hour: $100

Neuromuscular Therapy*

Neuromuscular Therapy is a very specialized form of manual therapy. A Neuromuscular Therapist (NMT) is educated in the physiology of the nervous system and its effect on the muscular and skeletal systems. The Neuromuscular Therapist is also trained in kinesiology and bio-mechanics. By definition, Neuromuscular Therapy is: the utilization of static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain. This technique manipulates the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons and connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system. In a healthy individual, nerves transmit impulses (which are responsible for every movement, function and thought) to the body very slowly. Injury, trauma, postural distortion or stress cause nerves to speed up their transmission, inhibiting equilibrium and making the body vulnerable to pain and dysfunction. 1-hour: $93, 1-1/2 hour: $150, 2-hour: $200

*Very large, thick muscled, and or individuals requesting extra deep, intense, extended pressure may be charged a slightly higher rate (not to exceed $10).

Neuromuscular Therapy is used to address five elements that cause pain: 1. Ischemia: Lack of blood supply to soft tissues which causes hypersensitivity to touch; 2. Trigger Points: Highly irritated points in muscles which refer pain to other parts of the body; 3. Nerve Compression/Entrapment: Pressure on a nerve by soft tissue, cartilage or bone; 4. Postural Distortion: Imbalance of the muscular system resulting from the movement of the body off the longitudinal and horizontal planes; 5. Biomechanic Dysfunction: Imbalance of the musculoskeletal system resulting in faulty movement patterns (i.e., poor lifting habits, bad mechanics in a golf swing or tennis stroke, too many hours computer keyboarding
